The banner is a tribute we made to honor the passing of Los Angeles great, Kobe Bryant. It has been up for several weeks and looks still brand new. I couldn’t help but think what would Kobe be doing in these times?
As we all know, right now everyone is on lock down trying to protect our elderly citizens from getting sick. At the time of this writing we have 40,550 total cases with 473 deaths. A 1% death rate if you test positive for COVID-19.
The chance of you getting COVID-19 is very low and even lower that you are going to die.
BREAKING NEWS - you are going to live!!
Therefore, we better make it a point to be prepared for the days following this virus outbreak.
Here at DWJ we are challenging each of us to put together our goals over the next 30 days. Come April 23 here are the goals I hope to achieve.
- Read two books
- Listen to a business podcast once a day
- Run 3 miles in 25 minutes
- Reach out to all of our clients and check in on them
- Write a blog a day
- Apply for an SBA loan
- Apply for Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses
- Finish up all fabrication jobs
- Learn to cook a new meal
- Drink a half gallon of water a day
We have always been big goal setters here at DWJ. There is a saying (among many) “If you don’t know where you are going, anywhere will get you there”. Goals provide us with a road map on where and how we are going to get there. I don’t believe anyone every accomplished anything without having a goal first.
Kobe Bryant’s goal was always to be the greatest player that ever lived. He worked every day toward that goal. No matter what obstacles stood in his way.
Every Monday morning, we have our Level 10 meeting at 10:00am. It is an all staff meeting where we go through the points of the business. We ALWAYS go over our goals and core values.
We set goals that feel impossible to achieve. When you go over them every week and then suddenly cross one off you realize they are all achievable. That feeling of crossing it off with the team is reason to celebrate. Every day we are getting better and working together towards those defined goals. The goals list provides us a road map and brings us together as a team.
In times like this, if you watch the news for 5 minutes you will think the end of the world is coming. We advise, step back, look at the data and know that you are going to be ok. Take the time at home to crush it. Set goals and go get them. Enjoy the time because before we know it... we all be so overwhelmed with the daily demands of life we will wish we had taken advantage of this time.
We hope everyone enjoys their time at home and conquering their goals.
